School Profile

Hesby Oaks School opened in 2006 after nearly two decades closed. Our school spans the elementary and middle school grades to offer an intimate and nurturing community educational experience unique in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Our residential area is South of the 101 Freeway, West of the 405 Freeway, East of Hayvenhurst and North of Ventura.  (Our middle school area also includes a few streets South of Ventura) If you are not sure of your resident status, please go to the “Find a School” tab at LAUSD.NET

If you live outside the Hesby Oaks residential boundaries you may be able to attend Hesby on a permit.  We are able to issue permits based on available space within each grade level.  We do not offer Child Care permits.

Lottery applications will be available in our office starting April 1st.  The deadline for submitting applications is April 30th.  We will have a lottery the first week of May.  All applicants not selected will be placed on a waiting list.

Thank you for your interest in Hesby Oaks Leadership Charter.

Enrollment Procedures - Grades K-8

To confirm your school of residence go to or you may call the school office for assistance.

If you live within the Hesby residential area, you may register your child for the current school year at any time. Registration for the upcoming school year begins each year in May.

Registration packets may be picked up in the school office. We suggest you take the packet home and return it when you have filled out all the forms and have all the additional documents.

In addition to the registration packet, you must bring the following:

  • Driver’s License or other official photo identification
  • Any 2 of the following 3 items to verify address:  D.W.P bill, Gas bill, or mortgage papers (Phone bills are not accepted)
  • Immunization record (immunizations must be complete)
  • Original Birth Certificate (The official county document)

Incomplete packets will not be accepted.

California law requires all 1st graders to have a physical examination and an oral health assessment. The physical must be done within 18 months prior to 1st grade entry and both forms are due no later than October of the 1st grade year.  However, both forms are included in the kindergarten enrolment packet and can be turned in at any time prior to that.

We encourage you to complete registration before the end of June.

If you DO NOT live within the Hesby residential area you may fill out a lottery application.  Lottery applications are available during the month of April each year for entry the following school year.  You can call us in June to receive your waiting list number and will only be called to enroll your child if there is available space in your child’s grade level and you are the next one on the list.

If you have any questions, please call the school office at (818) 528-7000.
