SPELLING/VOCABULARY TESTS:

Spelling tests in 2nd grade are student-created. Students will be given a spelling pattern to study for the week. In class, students will generate a list of spelling words using this pattern. They will bring their list home to study.

In addition, a list of vocabulary words will be assigned that go with the week's story.

Every Friday there will be a spelling and vocabulary test that includes vocabulary activities that will allow students to demonstrate their knowledge through drawing, definitions, synonyms, etc.

There will be 20 words total on the test: 10 off the list, 6 vocabulary, and 4 challenge words.

Spelling/Vocabulary Test Rubric:

*Challenge words are actually bonus points needed in order to get a rubric score of three or four. The spelling, vocabulary words and vocabulary activities are worth a total of 24 points.

Please be patient with our tests. Students may take a couple of weeks to have success, but this is a much better way to assess spelling and word knowledge.
