Kindness Unit

We are collecting pennies until the holidays. Students

will choose a favorite charity to donate them to as part

of our Kindness Unit.

Parents!

Don't forget to fill out your Kindness Coupons that are

in each week's homework. We are reading them in class

and sharing how students have shown Kindness at home

At the end of the unit they must write about an Act of

Kindness they have done for someone.

Curriculum:

In Language Arts our theme is Kindness.  Our anthology is filled with stories that include the genre study of realistic fiction, fantasy, and folklore. In grammar we are reviewing nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives.  We are also reviewing how to write complete sentences.  Our writing focus is friendly letters. Students will be writing thank you notes, business letters, and friendly letters to characters in the stories they have read.

Our new math series has been posing some interesting challenges. I have found that it is laying a very broad foundation in number sense. Students have yet to learn regrouping in addition and subtraction. It is coming soon however. We are all looking forward to it!

We have started P.E. with our coaches on Tuesdays and every other Friday with Mr. Conway. Please make sure your child is wearing athletic shoes on these days.

I just want to remind you that I am always free to speak to you after school, except on Tuesdays when we have meetings. If you feel the need for a conference, you can make an appointment with me through email or a note. If you just have a question come by anytime, but class time! My door is always open.
